Yes, Austin is sick again. He came down with a sudden high fever on Monday afternoon, and I took him to the seminary clinic yesterday because his fever wouldn't go away. The doctor said his throat is definitely what is causing the high fever (at it's highest, it was 104.2, and that was on tylenol). So, he gave us some antibiotic, and Austin is being very cooperative this time about taking his medicine. I put it in a syringe, and he likes to squirt it in himself. He even asks for more medicine when the syringe is empty, which is a big shock since a month ago we had to force him to take the antibiotic.
Here are a few things I learned about fevers this week. For a toddler Austin's age, a fever can get close to 105 degrees before it is considered an emergency. Since his fever wasn't responding to Tylenol alone, the clinic said I could alternate giving Tylenol and Motrin every three hours to bring it down more quickly. (My good friend Brandy gave this advice as well, and it worked).
Austin is actually feeling much better today; this round of strep isn't nearly as bad as the one last month. He doesn't have a virus to go with it this time. His only symptom was a high fever- no runny nose or cough. As I type this post, Austin is reading a book, and he just finished playing in his room with his toys; He's not clingy or whiny, so I know he feels pretty good.
So, hopefully we will get rid of this pesty strep throat for good this time.
